A man accused of releasing 37 horses at the Stanley County Fairgrounds has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
Twenty-four-year-old James Pourier, of Lower Brule, is charged with aggravated assault, destruction of property, burglary, trespassing and injury to animals. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all of the counts.
Authorities allege Pourier was banned from the fairgrounds on May 3 because of an April arrest on drug charges, and hours later confronted a horse owner with a pitchfork and let the horses loose. The horses had to be rounded up in Pierre and Fort Pierre, and six were injured.
Judge John Brown on Tuesday refused to lower Pourier's $5,000 bond.
