A Fort Pierre man charged with attempted murder says he used a shotgun to defend his property from a woman and did not expect it to discharge into a vehicle, almost hitting the woman.
Derek Boe testified for about two hours Thursday morning during his trial. He is accused of shooting out the window of a vehicle occupied by a 24-year-old Pierre woman on a Hughes County road in January, narrowly missing the woman with the shotgun blast.
Boe repeatedly said during his testimony that he was shocked the weapon had gone off. He said it was accident.
"It was not my intention. I did not want it to go off," Boe said.
Closing arguments in the case are expected Friday morning.
