Man Arrested For Climbing On, Damaging Downtown Sculpture

A 24-year-old Sioux Falls man is charged with damaging a sculpture over the weekend.

At around 2 a.m. Saturday, an off-duty police officer saw a man climb on top of "Salmon Runner" at 11th Street and Phillips Avenue. According to police, a part of the statue broke off and the group walked away.

Officers caught up to Casey John Schmidt and arrested him for felony intentional damage to property. Police do not have estimate on the damage, but the statue is worth $16,000.
