Man Accused Of Releasing Horses Is Out On Bond

Fort Pierre, SD

A Lower Brule man accused of releasing 37 horses at the Stanley County Fairgrounds has been released on a $5,000 bond.

The 24-year-old James Pourier earlier pleaded not guilty to various charges including aggravated assault, destruction of property, burglary, trespassing and injury to animals.

Pourier will have to live with a family while he awaits trial and wear an ankle bracelet that monitors alcohol consumption through sweat gland emissions. His trial is scheduled for Oct. 14.

Authorities allege Pourier was banned from the fairgrounds on May 3 because of an April arrest on drug charges, and hours later confronted a horse owner with a pitchfork and let the horses loose. The horses had to be rounded up in Pierre and Fort Pierre, and six were injured.
