Dale Buxcel has been Santa at the Empire Mall for more than 20 years. This year on his way to his Santa duties, his house and his belongings were lost in a fire. Now, a local photographer is giving back part of her proceeds to help.
"The Empire Mall Santa is such a huge staple. Not only for me and my family and my kids but for the area in general," photographer Kate Jones said.
After hearing that he'd lost most of his belongings in a November fire, people across KELOLAND want to help.
"With his house burning down and with him losing everything but still being here and still continuing the tradition, it really inspired me to do something," Jones said.
Jones owns a photography business and is offering 15-minute sessions for $30. All of the proceeds will be donated to Santa.
"I thought either I'd go through the GoFundMe, with the Murdo Fire Department that they've put forward or when I was just there with my kids present him with a donation just to help," Jones said.
She says it gives families a way to help. It doesn't take much time, plus you'll also get something in return.
"They still want some really great portraits with someone great. So I thought what a way to give back, first of all but a way also for people who are looking for something shorter," Jones said.
Jones and her children have been going to see Santa for years.
"There's something about it that's nostalgic, even for me but also a tradition for my kids that they 100 percent know," Jones said.
Jones says she's excited to help and to teach her own children an important holiday lesson.
Sessions are being booked through next week. If you want to help Santa out, you can go to the GoFundMe page
or book a session with Kate Jones' Studios
