They may all be artificial, but the trees are bringing real joy to people this holiday season.
"Oh I love them. It really decorates the place up. It seems so boring here after they're gone," Canton resident and courthouse worker Becky Vanderbroek said.
Each tree is set up by a local business or family from Lincoln County. Lisa Alden with the Canton Chamber Of Commerce is encouraging people to come to the 9th Annual Festival Of Trees. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 9.
"It started as a way to showcase the new courthouse. That was the first year that the addition had been added on to the courthouse. So we wanted to find a way to get people in here to see the courthouse. Having some Christmas trees helped do that," Alden said.
Visiting the Lincoln County Courthouse isn't the most exciting thought but these trees help brighten the mood for people coming here to get new license plates, pay taxes or go to court.
With 40 trees on display, there's plenty of variety.
"It's not just red and green anymore, it's blue, silver, anything anyone wants to do they can put on a Christmas tree," Vanderbroek said.
"I don't know if we can compete with Pierre but we give people an option who don't have the opportunity to go to Pierre to see what maybe we have to offer in a smaller scale," Alden said.
But big enough to put a toothy smile on your face and this tree.
On top of decorations, there will be 15 vendors on hand as well as live music.
