Levitt At The Falls Bringing Outdoor Concerts To Sioux Falls

If you love outdoor concerts, you're going to love this.  Plans for that multi-million dollar stage KELOLAND News told you about last year as part of the Levitt at the Falls project were unveiled Tuesday.

City leaders say it's the first phase in developing what's being called "Falls Park West."

The Levitt Shell will feature a covered outdoor amphitheater and a gently sloping lawn seating area that faces south looking toward downtown.

"We have a wonderful downtown, I think this is going to bring it up to the next level," Friends of the Levitt Shell Sioux Falls Board Chair Jennifer Kirby said.

The $4.5 million band shell, that's being paid for by the City and the Levitt Foundation, will have state-of-the-art sound and lighting, along with a video board.

It'll also have permanent restrooms and a concession area.

Once the shell is complete, Levitt at the Falls will host approximately 50 family friendly free concerts with local and national artists of all genres.

"It'll certainly bring even more attention to our city's name sake; Falls Park," City Parks and Recreation Director Don Kearney said.

City leaders have big plans for this area of downtown.  They say getting the Levitt  band shell built first will be a huge step in reaching that goal.

"The part of this project that makes me most excited is that it's a way to bring our community together," Kirby said.

Work will begin next year once all the funds have been raised by the Friends of the Levitt Shell.  The first concerts are scheduled to begin in 2019.
