KELOLAND Wins The Battle For Hearts

Rivals in news and on the dodgeball court, KELOLAND TV and the Argus Leader turned those competitive feelings into a fundraising opportunity for the American Heart Association.

It's year number two for this athletic match-up between the two groups, and both sides came prepared with a lot of energy and a lot of generosity.

Staff from the Argus Leader looked to enact some revenge after last year's KELO victory, but both sides weren't just looking to throw dodgeballs at each other. It's all part of a bigger effort to raise money for the American Heart Association and support the fight against heart disease.

"Sometimes there are some rivalries, and we have that with Democrats and Republicans in Washington, and I suppose to some degree the Argus Leader and KELO are rivals in this town, too, but when it comes to something like the American Heart Association and the good work they do, everybody comes together," Volunteer Referee Senator John Thune said.

Senator John Thune even auctioned off the opportunity to have some dodge balls thrown at him. He took it all in stride knowing the temporary pain comes nowhere close to the pain families go through when dealing with heart disease.

Team KELOLAND did pull out the 4 to 2 victory, but it's an even bigger win for the American Heart Association to the tune of $2,000.

All of that will stay in South Dakota to help fund research projects happening right here.
