KELOLAND-TV And Argus Battle For Hearts

Sioux Falls, SD

KELOLAND TV is battling it out against the Argus Leader for an annual dodge ball game. It's all friendly competition, but the real winner at the big match is the fight against heart disease.

Sneakers squeaking and dodge balls flying, that's exactly what's happening Thursday night between KELOLAND-TV and the Argus Leader.

"We're competitors in business and we also want to compete in this dodge ball match," KELOLAND-TV’s Paul Farmer said.

It's not only a match between the competitors, but a battle for the hearts.

"Heart disease affects everyone in some way or another, its affected you or you know someone in your family or friends that have been affected by heart disease," Farmer said.

The game is to raise money to stomp out heart diseases, something a lot of South Dakotans could face.
"It is the number one killer; it is something everyone should be aware of. It's something that people should understand," American Heart Association spokesperson Chrissy Meyer said.

The money raised at the dodge ball tournament will go directly to the American Heart Association and the dollars and cents stays right here in KELOLAND.

"The dollars that are raised through this event stay right here in the state of south Dakota to help educated South Dakotans about their risk for HD, to help fund research projects that are being done right here in the state of South Dakota to help fight and prevent heart disease," said Meyer.

Everyone is invited to the games Thursday; it starts at 7:15 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls.
