Jeep May Have Dragged Crash Victims

sioux falls, sd

The victims of a deadly motorcycle crash may have been pulled down the street by the car that police say hit them from behind early Saturday morning.

Thirty-six-year-old Tracy Handel was on a motorcycle driven by 41-year-old Sean Burns early Saturday morning on West 26th Street.  Burns was slowing down for a traffic signal at Grange Avenue when police say a Jeep driven by 41-year-old Darren Boomgarden hit them from behind.

Police are now trying to determine what happened but say because of where the motorcycle was found, they will also look into whether Handel and Burns were still on it as the jeep pulled it down the street.

Friends, family and even strangers have left flowers, cards and are visiting the corner where the crash happened to remember Handel, who died over the weekend.  Burns, who is from Hartford, is hospitalized in serious condition.

Boomgarden is charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular battery, DWI, felony hit and run, no insurance and open container.  His blood alcohol content at the time of the crash is unknown.
