At least two South Dakota teachers are using the life and death of former South Dakota Gov. Bill Janklow as an ongoing classroom lesson.
Stanley County Elementary teacher John Latham says he wanted to bring the fifth-grade students to the Capitol in Pierre Tuesday while Janklow lies in state.
About 35 students from the school walked past the flag-draped coffin.
Latham says, "This is an iconic figure in South Dakota. We brought them because this is something the children will never experience again."
He says he wants to teach the students how Janklow shaped the state.
Latham says he will continue to use Janklow as part of his classroom curriculum.
