Iowa Governor Terry Brandstand has declared a disaster proclamation for 13 counties after of series of weekend storms.
The Sioux County, Iowa Emergency manager says the county received nine to eleven inches of rain over the weekend. That’s causing a lot of problems to homes and infrastructure in the area.
Many residents had water in their basements and some secondary roads and culverts in the area were washed out.
The emergency manager says the county is thankful for the disaster proclamation from the Governor.
The state was already sent a pump to help aid the town of Afton, Iowa, one of the hardest hit areas because it is so close to the Lloyd River.
Last year this entire area in Iowa was in a severe drought. So, it’s a significantly different atmosphere so far this year. But officials are concerned that this water has run off too quickly and hasn’t been able to recharge the aquifers in the area that are dry.
