Hollywood roars into Mitchell later this month for the premiere of a new movie called "Why We Ride". It's a documentary about people who have a passion for motorcycles. But it also features some young girls from Mitchell who've been down a bad road of their own.
The movie, "Why We Ride" is a film that shows the camaraderie between friends and families who enjoy the open road.
It also mentions the "Helping with Horsepower" program which benefits young girls at the Abbott House.
"We did an interview at Sturgis a couple of years ago not knowing how much of a role we would have in the movie, or if they were going to let me talk about the Abbott House and the bike rebuild program," Klock said.
Each year, the girls from the Abbott House help customize a Harley Davidson motorcycle to be raffled off to help raise money for the Abbott House; a place where young girls, who've come from broken homes, come to stay as they rebuild their lives.
This is the third motorcycle the girls will rebuild and customize to help celebrate the Abbott House's 75th Anniversary. It's a 2001 Road King equipped with a sidecar.
"I think a sidecar really screams you can take your family with you and take people with you," Klock said.
Which is what "Why We Ride" is all about. The new movie will soon be showing at a Mitchell theater for one day only.
"It'll be the South Dakota premiere of it, that will give it some exposure and get the message of the movie, not only about bikes and riding, but also the Helping With Horsepower program that started here in Mitchell," Jeff Logan of Luxury 5 Cinemas said.
While the movie is already winning some awards, the true winners are the girls who'll benefit in more ways than one from this soon-to-be custom-made bike.
"It gives these girls a real outlet and opportunity and helped them a lot , helped them grow and learn and give them a mission and purpose with the project," Logan said.
"Why We Ride" premieres January 30th at Luxury 5 Cinemas in Mitchell January 30. Premiere and launch tickets are available online by clicking here.
