Group Saves Woman From Garage, Man Charged With Attempted Rape

Sioux Falls

Police say a group of people helped a woman escape a locked garage after a man threatened to kill her.

At about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, a woman was heard screaming for help inside a garage behind a business near West 11th Street and South Prairie Avenue. Four people got the locked garage door opened and a woman crawled out from inside.

The victim told police she was with a friend when the two met another man and went to the garage. Once inside, the friend left the woman with the other man and locked the door behind him.

According to police, that's when 50-year-old Sergio Rudy Marroquin told the woman to take off her clothes and that he was going to kill her. He then tried to pull her clothes off but she yelled for help.

The victim's friend was found nearby and he provided detectives with information about Marroquin. But police said the man claimed to not have known anything about what happened inside the garage.

Officers found Marroquin at his apartment in the 300 block of South Summit Avenue. He was arrested, charged with attempted rape and booked into the Minnehaha County Jail.
