The man who found the explosive told police he was helping a friend clean out the property when they found it. Police believe that a relative received the grenade several years ago. Nearby streets were closed briefly under police determined that the grenade was safe to handle.
At a secure location, police destroyed the explosive which police think was a training grenade. A Davison County Sheriff's Office deputy searched the property and didn't find any other explosives.
Police reminded the public not to touch or transport anything believed to be an explosive. The department advises the public to get away from the object and call 911.
