Sioux Falls, SD
This past weekend Vikings Linebacker Chad Greenway was in Sioux Falls helping out with the Sanford Hy-Vee Legends event.
"Knowing that I can come out on the other end and be the same player I was before if not better," said Vikings Linebacker Chad Greenway.
If Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway can recover from his knee scope this off season and be anything like he was last season Minnesota will be in good shape. The Mount Vernon native led the Vikings defense in tackles with 148, 98 of them solo stops. He also chipped in three sacks and an interception on his way to the pro bowl in 2012. Now the only question is how is the knee now?
"Yeah, I had the scope on Wednesday. I feel good. I'll miss this mini camp coming up next week, but I'll be ready for training camp and football when it matters and counts. It feels good. It was something that was necessary and I needed to do now to get ready for the season," said Greenway.
With the defensive anchor feeling good the Vikings added rival and former Packer receiver Greg Jennings this off season. Jennings will fill the void of losing Percy Harvin to Seattle and give Christian Ponder a deep threat. But most of all Greenway is excited to not have to chase Jennings around on Sunday's.
"I love it. Playing against Greg for seven years it was not always a fun process to play against him. I think it going to be great for Christian to build confidence with him, a veteran receiver that knows what to do with the football after he catches it as well. He's going to make us a lot better," said Greenway.
After finishing 3-13 in 201, the Vikes made a huge turnaround in 2012. The team finished 10-6 earning them a playoff birth. So with a new piece on offense, another year under Ponder's belt, and the leagues best running back expectations are a lot higher going into 2013.
"The mentality has to be we're going to win the Super Bowl. That is going to be our number one goal just like every other team across this league. Now we have to act accordingly, practice accordingly, go through a training camp like it needs to been done, and just be on our business constantly improving," said Greenway.
Greenway and the Vikings will report to training camp July 25th in Mankato, MN. Their first preseason game is August 9th, they will host the Texans.
