Gov. Daugaard Says Janklow Changed S. Dakota

PIERRE, SD

Gov. Dennis Daugaard says things former Gov. Bill Janklow did decades ago are still affecting South Dakota today.

Daugaard looked on Tuesday as hundreds of mourners filed past Janklow's coffin in the Capitol. Janklow died Thursday of cancer at the age of 72.

Daugaard says Janklow changed South Dakota for the better by saving rail service in the state and attracting credit-card banks. The governor says Janklow taught him to do what he believes is right and not worry about what people say.

The current governor says that during Janklow's four terms as governor he made South Dakotans believe in themselves. Daugaard says people sometimes believe South Dakota is a small state that cannot get things done, but Janklow changed that outlook.
