Vandals struck a central Sioux Falls neighborhood over the weekend. Someone spray painted graffiti on dozens of things including cars, garages and sheds. Police say it appears to be gang related.
Neighbors aren't sure what these gang symbols mean, but they do know they say something about the people who did it.
"Very upsetting, I don't know why, I mean what's the point of doing that?" Amanda Christensen said.
For several blocks, the graffiti is much the same. In the 12th Street and Menlo Avenue area, several garages were hit along with a trailer. Christensen lives in the neighborhood too, but she didn't hear or see anything.
"It makes me upset. The neighborhood isn't that good of a neighborhood anyway; I think it's just unnecessary," Christensen said.
"They ended up finding 29 different places that had been sprayed painted with graffiti. Construction signs, garages, fences retaining walls and vehicles," Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said.
Dustin Griffin isn't a victim, but he was one of several people who called the cops Saturday morning.
"It doesn't feel good. You wake up in the morning, come out to see gang graffiti. The first thing you see when you look outside," Griffin said.
Some people have either painted over the graffiti already or tried washing it off. But for now it's left a permanent stain on this neighborhood.
Don Jorgensen: Does it make you feel a little uneasy about the neighborhood you live in?
Griffin: Not uneasy, but kind of angry because there are kids who play here. I lived here for a year and there's never any trouble.
Police tell us they have no suspects at this time.
