A former West Central special education teacher has admited to having sex with a 15-year-old student.
We first told you about this case in August of last year
. At the time Kari Boll faced more than 20 counts, including 4th degree rape, sexual contact with a child, sexual exploitation, and solicitation of a minor.
More than a year after resigning from her job as a special education teacher in the West Central School District, Kari Boll has entered a guilty plea. According to court papers, she admits to 4th degree rape- which means her victim was under 16. She also pleaded guilty to sexual contact with a child.
Court papers say the investigation started when Boll confided in a 17-year-old girl and told her she was in a relationship with a 15-year-old student. The girl and her mother eventually went to authorities with Instagram posts and text messages detailing the relationship.
When a detective interviewed Boll, court papers say the teacher admitted that it started when the boy was working on her farm. She said it started with kissing and led to sex.
"Just 'cause you're charged with rape doesn't mean that it's a forced-type situation," Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Jason Gearman said in 2016. "In this case, it's a statutory rape where they can't give consent, 'cause of, due to the age."
Which is one of the two charges to which Boll has pleaded guilty.
Boll has been in and out of jail since the accusations surfaced. A judge issued a bench warrant in June following a sheriff's report that said she'd been in contact with her alleged victim and other teens. She was released a few days later and remains out on bond. She is waiting to be sentenced.
