Former Mitchell Pharmacist Begins Jail Term

Mitchell, SD

A former Mitchell pharmacist accused of taking about $3,500 worth of pills from his place of employment has begun serving a 10-day sentence on a reduced charge.

Sixty-year-old Jim Buechler initially was charged with grand theft and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.  He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of not being forthcoming with information, and the more serious charges were dropped.

Buechler was sentenced in late May to 90 days in jail with 80 days suspended, fined $500 and ordered to pay nearly $4,000 in restitution. He began serving his jail sentence on Monday and will be on probation for a year after his release.
