Flooded Stretch Of Highway 34 Reopens; Only 1 Lane

A stretch of highway in western South Dakota that's been closed for two weeks due to flooding has reopened.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the two-and-a-half mile section of Highway 34 from Howes Corner east reopened Tuesday morning.

The highway will stay at one lane for six to eight more weeks while repairs are made to the Howes and Buffalo Lake dams.

The highway was closed to allow crews to repair damage caused by the torrential rains over several days in June.
