Fire Danger Still High Despite Snow In Hills

People in the Northern Hills woke up to around an inch and a half of fresh snow Thursday morning.

It fell in the Lead-Deadwood area Wednesday night, painting the landscape white.

Despite the snow and cooler temperatures, fire officials are warning the fire danger is still high.

“We're going to have to have some rainfall or some snow that sticks with us for a while.  If we get a few sprinkles here and there it really doesn't help because it dries out as soon as the sun comes out,” South Dakota Wildland Fire Training Officer Rob Lehmann said.

Fire restrictions are still in place throughout the Black Hills and much of the state.

There is a chance for more snow in the higher elevations of the Black Hills on Friday.
