Fire Crews Burn Slash Piles At Mount Rushmore

Fire officials in the Black Hills are putting the recent snowfall to good use with a prescribed burn at Mount Rushmore.

Crews started the fire at the National Monument at around 9:30 Tuesday morning.

The burn covered around 30 acres to eliminate more than 100 slash piles and ground debris.

With rising temperatures increasing the fire danger throughout the rest of the week, officials are urging the public to put off other burning until more snow falls.
