FEMA Rejects State's Request For Individual Assistance

Pierre, SD

South Dakota received word today that FEMA has rejected the state’s request for Individual Assistance to help those impacted by the flooding and tornadoes in June.

According to FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate, the damage to homes and businesses fell short of the severity and magnitude to warrant federal assistance.

Governor Dennis Daugaard called the decision disappointing but said the state is examining all options including a possible appeal.
