Sioux Falls, SD
KELOLAND families stepped out into the heat Saturday for a full slate of activities.
Sioux Falls Family Fest has teamed up with Hood Magazine to help families learn about important resources in the community and to have a little fun.
The 8th annual Family Fest took over the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds on Saturday.
Families with children of all ages came out to see vendors, pet farm animals, and to play on inflatables. Tamien Dysart and his family have been going to this festival for the last three years and he is impressed with how it has grown.
"It's getting bigger every year so it's fun to have something for the kids to enjoy themselves and to have fun with your family," Family Fest goer, Tamien Dysart said.
Only this year was the first time HOOD magazine owner Steff Holtrop was in charge of organizing the event. She says her parenting magazine and the family-centered event make a great pair.
"Today is our chance to bring families we reach all year long with the magazine out to the vendors," HOOD Magazine Owner, Steff Holtrop said.
Vendors came out today to show the community what they had to offer.
"Sanford children's hospital is here and they are helping families find the resources they need for their medical care and Hunger For Truth is here talking about the food to the table and how that happens," Holtrop said.
Dysart says he likes how family fest isn't just fun and games but and education resource as well.
"They got their eyes checked today so things you wouldn't do on a normal basis by yourself," Dysart said.
Even Little Miss South Dakota International, Emily Enga, says she learned a lot today and had fun doing it.
"And I got to meet paramedics and an ambulance and a helicopter," Little Miss South Dakota International, Emily Enga said.
Over 75 vendors were a part of family fest this year.
If you missed out on today's festivities don't worry they have already started planning for next year and have the date set for July 14, 2018.
