Donors Help Make Laura Ingalls Wilder Autobiography A Reality

Pierre, SD

The South Dakota State Historical Society is looking for the support of donors to make the release of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography a reality.

The original autobiography has been hidden away since 1930 and shows the true stories of her pioneering life.

According to the director of the Pioneer Girl Project, Nancy Tystad Koupal, the publishing the autobiography has been a complex process. Koupal says that there has been extensive research on Wilder’s handwritten rough draft and other versions edited by her daughter.

Census data, newspapers, county documents and land records of the time were also researched to provide context to the book.

There are different levels of donations one can give and more information can be found on the Pionneer Girl Project website.
