"We arrived at Mt. Rushmore tonight, just before twilight. The light was still pretty good and Martin got his first look at the grand monument which never disappoints. I've seen it a number of times before," Dan Rather said in a Facebook video.
The two have been documenting their trip on social media. They plan to spend more time at Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse on Monday.
Dan Rather has been a household name for decades (especially for viewers of KELOLAND), but his platform on social media has continued to rise throughout the 2016 election and the beginning of the Donald Trump presidency. He's been reaching a whole new demographic of "viewers" on social media.
The 85-year-old isn't slowing down anytime soon, Rather has a book about patriotism coming out in November. It's called "What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism." More highlights from the trip:

Former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather is on a road trip with his grandson, Martin, to South Dakota. He's visiting the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore. They arrived in the Rushmore state late Sunday.
