Sioux Falls police are investigating an early morning attempted armed robbery that injured a clerk at a west-side convenience store.

Police say the man struck the clerk on the head with a semi-automatic handgun, knocking the clerk onto the floor.

The gunman then ran out of the Freedom Valu Center at 12th & Kiwanis , but police don't believe he got away with any money.

The clerk has a cut to his head, but investigators say he will recover.

Police are looking for a black man with short dreadlocks wearing a long white coat with red trim,  jean shorts and basketball high-tops.
