Brandon Teens Face Long List Of Charges

Sioux Falls, SD

Four Brandon teens face charges following a traffic stop that turned up stolen guns.

Sioux Falls Police say it all started when an officer spotted a vehicle that didn't have license plates on Saturday evening.
When an officer saw one of the teens trying to hide something, they decided to do a search.

Police say they found marijuana, paraphernalia and 10-prescription pills in the car.  Inside a locked glove compartment, police say they found two stolen guns.  Police say one was stolen in Sioux Falls, and the other was taken from a car in Brandon over the weekend.

One of the guns in the glove compartment could help Sioux Falls Police solve another weekend crime.

18-year-old Sheldon Hauge and 19-year-old Hunter May walked to court facing a long list of charges.  Police say Hauge and May could have had a hand in stealing several of the guns in Brandon and Sioux Falls.

"The one in Sioux Falls, a car window was broken out, that's how they were able to enter the car and there were several guns that were taken," Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said.

Police say six guns were stolen from a Toyota Highlander in the 900 block of North Dubuque Avenue. Four were shotguns and two were handguns.

At this point, Hauge and May have not been charged with stealing the weapons.  Only the teen driver of the vehicle police had stopped on Saturday night is charged in connection with the guns.

"That will be something they'll try to determine if these four had anything to do with the theft of those guns, but just the simple fact we know they were stolen and they were in their possession, at least the driver, because it was in the locked glove box, he was charged with the possession of stolen property," Clemens said.

Both May and Hauge were released from jail on the promise to make their next court appearance.
