Pierre, SD
Former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth is staring down charges that could put her in prison for 24 years.
Bosworth made her first court appearance Monday afternoon at the Hughes County Courthouse in Pierre on charges of perjury and forgery.
Bosworth faces allegations that she fraudulently signed her nominating petitions to get on the primary ballot.
She pleaded not guilty to all the charges Monday.
"Dr. Bosworth maintains her innocence and will defend against the charges,” Bosworth’s attorney Brandon Taliaferro said in an email to KELOLAND News on Monday.
Perjury Among Charges Against Bosworth, Walker
The South Dakota Attorney General's Office alleges that Bosworth signed as the petition circulator on nominating petitions which were signed while she was out of the country.
More than two weeks ago, Bosworth said the charges were filed out of 'revenge' after she successfully fought back against the Attorney General's Office in 2012 to keep her medical license.
Bosworth Calls Recent Charges 'Revenge'
"So this latest assault is a continuation of those attacks. Marty Jackley wants to destroy me and he won't be satisfied until he does," Bosworth said on June 6.
Bosworth and her attorney have asked the state to turn over any evidence they have against her as they prepare motions for this case.
Her next court date is July 15.
