Sioux Falls, SD
Heavy hail damaged thousands of vehicles in Sioux Falls during Thursday's powerful storm. With dings and dents all over their rides, people are filling up body shops in town for estimates and repairs.
It's been a frustrating few weeks for Paul Werner. After an incident two weeks ago, his car wound up in the shop and following Thursday's storm, now his rental is there too.
"I was at work and I'm over there seeing all this hail come down and I got a rental car so I'm over there praying my heart out saying, 'Please, no damage.' Mine got hit pretty bad," Werner said.
Werner has hail damage all over his vehicle that was parked at 69th Street and Louise Avenue and he isn't alone.
Body shops in Sioux Falls were so busy that lines started forming even before they opened Friday morning.
It's not normal for Marv's Body Shop to direct traffic coming in and out of their lot but with so many in need of estimates, it had to be done.
"Plan on sitting here for a little while waiting for somebody to help you but we've got everybody here writing as fast as we can," Marv's co-owner Evan Kindt said.
Kindt says this hail storm is worse than last year's. He expects to have repair work from this event for the next four months.
As for Werner, he'll assess the damages and his co-workers are facing the same situation.
"Everybody at work has got it," Werner said. "One guy, while I'm over there praying for no hail, he's praying for hail because he wanted his car totaled because he has a huge loan on it and he can pay off his car."
Marv's Body Shop says the first thing you should do if you need repairs is call your insurance agent and see how they're handling estimates.
