Blizzard Batters Northeast South Dakota

Summit, SD

A Sunday morning blizzard is bearing down on parts of northeast South Dakota. Heavy snow combined with strong winds are creating dangerous driving conditions.

Plows have been clearing snow-covered roads when weather conditions allow.  Wind gusts up to 40-miles-an-hour are slowing their progress.

Stranded travelers are waiting-out the storm in places like the Coffee Cup truck stop on Interstate 29 near Summit, SD.

There was zero-visibility early Sunday morning on roads in the Mobridge area.  Police report few traffic problems, saying it appears people heeded the blizzard warnings and stayed home.

The storm is also bringing bitter cold to northwest South Dakota where wind-chills are 25-below zero.
