Black Hills National Forest Gets More Beetle Funds

rapid city, sd

U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem says the Forest Service is making an additional $1 million available to fight pine beetles in the Black Hills National Forest.

The South Dakota Republican says the pine beetle epidemic is a "slow-motion disaster" and the $1 million from carryover funds from previous years is welcome news.

Black Hills Forest Resource Association Director Tom Troxel says that the $1 million will be added to the forest's $8.5 million 2012 budget for timber sales and related forest management.

The state also is dedicating millions of dollars to the pine beetle battle in the Black Hills.
