Baseball Team Honors Veterans

Sioux Falls, SD

Memorial Day is a time when we remember our loved ones we've lost. But for veterans like Paul Anderson, Memorial Day means much more.

"Because of Memorial Day, it's the time of year that we set aside to celebrate the veterans that have passed and to honor them with the commitment they made with the service.” Anderson said “Not only those that have died in previous wars, but all the veterans who have passed away.”

Members of the SWAT baseball team ventured off of the field on Friday and into St. Michael’s Cemetery. They helped veterans like Anderson place flags at the grave site of every man and woman who served for our country.

"Part of what we teach our team, and the baseball players, is that there's more than just baseball. It's about relationships, it's about building a team, its playing together, and its being service oriented," SWAT baseball team coach Jey Gonzales said.

"I came out here to bring my brother out, and pretty much help out with putting flags up too. Really, I am just helping out the veterans because they helped us. I mean, I think we should do something to help them too," baseball supporter Joe Irvine said.

No matter how long they served or where they served for our country over seas, these flags show that although these special men and women are gone, they will never be forgotten.
