A new report shows there is no pattern of caskets being buried in the wrong place at a city-owned cemetery in Rapid City.
An audit of nearly 400 burial sites at the Mountain View/Mount Calvary Cemetery found no evidence of people buried in the wrong places.
The city hired an outside firm to audit the records after at least four cases of caskets being buried in the wrong place had been identified, as well as allegations that cemetery workers in the 1980s placed amputated limbs in grave sites prepared for others.
Rapid City Mayor Sam Kookier says the report shows that are no ongoing systemic problems. He says the city is working on implementing recommendations made in the report.
