Five Children Dead In Spearfish Fire

Spearfish, SD

Five children, between the ages of 6 and 11 years old, died in a fire Saturday morning in Spearfish, SD.

"What we've seen this morning is an unspeakable horror, but some extreme professionalism," said Lt. Boyd Dean, Spearfish Police Department.

The fire was reported shortly before 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Ames St. and Oliver St. When officials arrived the house was fully engulfed.

Officials aren't ruling out that there could be more fatalities, but believe they have everyone accounted for.

There was possibly a sleepover or party happening at the time of the fire, officials say. They have not confirmed that.

The adults in the house were taken to an area hospital, their condition is unknown.

Officials are investigating, according to Spearfish Police.

There is no cause of the fire as of Saturday morning.

More details are expected to be released later Saturday.
