As you may have noticed, some cemeteries in Sioux Falls are filled with ash trees. We decided to take a look at what will happen with those trees. KELOLAND News stopped by two cemeteries in Sioux Falls. Both had ash trees
At Hills of Rest Cemetery, they have been working on removing ash trees for the last 17 years in anticipation of the emerald ash borer making its way into town.
Now they've lowered the number of ash trees in the cemetery.
"Between 40 and 50 ash trees left in the cemetery, I've taken out 200 in the last 17 years, and I've put back 250 trees, there's 88 acres here, so there's lots of space for trees," Hills of Rest Manager Phil Schmitz said.
Scmitz says out of those 250 he's replanted in the cemterey, there's about 15 different species, ranging from oak, maple, and pine.
Coming up tonight on KELOLAND News at 10 we hear from another cemetery in town and what they plan to do with the ash trees there.
