Barb Meyers has been teaching in Sioux Falls for 27 years.
On Monday night, it was another typical concert with her kids, when things started to get a little strange.
"For some reason, the band director said, 'Hey, we need to all be up on stage during the school song.' And I thought, 'Well that's kind of crazy' because normally it's not about the teachers; it's about the kids," Meyers said.
That's when Meyers' boyfriend Greg approached her on stage carrying a microphone.
"I used to dream about being loved by someone who loves me the way you do. And that I would love her the same. In return, that dream has come true," Meyers' fiancé said.
Along with the sweet sentiments, there were a few laughs.
"Even though we've been strangers for over 50 years, somehow it felt as though we had known each other all along. I tried to memorize this. It wasn't going to work," Meyers' fiancé said.
Meyers says teaching is her passion. Now, thanks to her fiancé, that passion is forever connected to the best night of her life.
"I love the kids here and I love what I do. And for him to choose a moment where it was some place among people I love, and the people that I love, meant so much to me," Meyers said.
Of course, Meyers said yes. The video of the proposal has been shared on social media thousands of times.
