500 Acres Burned In Rankin Wildfire

Wind Cave National Park, SD

A wildfire at Wind Cave National Park has grown by 66 percent in the past day.

According to the National Park Service, about 500 acres (or 0.78 square miles) have burned in the Rankin Wildfire near County Highway 87 and Highland Ridge Road. Firefighters say the blaze was started by lightning.

About 85 firefighters and support staff from three states are at the scene. There is no estimate of the amount contained or controlled.
