On Tuesday night, a 2005 Pontiac G6 was headed north on U.S. Highway 81 towards the U.S. Highway 14 intersection. The driver did not stop at the stop sign and crashed into a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup that was traveling east.
The driver of the Pontiac G6, identified by authorities as a 39-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. South Dakota Highway Patrol said he was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver and passenger inside the pickup sustained minor injuries and were both wearing seatbelts.
The crash is under investigation. Highway Patrol troopers were assisted by the Kingsbury County Sheriff's Office, Brookings County Sheriff's Office, Arlington Fire Department, Arlington Ambulance, and Brookings Ambulance.
