SDSU Administrators React To Racial Slur

brookings, sd

Administrators at South Dakota State University are reacting to a racial slur targeting Native American Students.

It was found in Brown Hall late last week. Someone wrote racist remarks on the bathroom wall and singled out room numbers of Native American Students.

University officials have met with the affected groups and even issued a formal statement condemning the actions.

They are also using the opportunity to address the University's continued conversation about diversity.

“To use that moment to galvanize the movement already in place, we have a lot of dialogue and discussions going on around diversity,” SDSU Diversity Officer Jamie Nolan-Andrino said. “We have a lot of strategic initiatives in place. So a moment like this should move us even more forward into those discussions.”

Tonight on KELOLAND News at 10, we'll have student's reaction to the racial slur.
