SD School Won't Pursue 4-Day Week

scotland, sd

The direction of Scotland in reference to Sioux Falls was corrected in the last paragraph.

Some South Dakota public schools are going to a four-day school week, but the Scotland school system won't be one of them.

Superintendent Damon Alvey says the school board wants to study the issue in more depth. He says switching from a five-day to a four-day class week doesn't have obvious advantanges.

Alvey says there hasn't been strong public support for the proposal either way among the school district's parents.

If the board had approved a four-day week, it wouldn't have taken effect until the fall of 2013. Alvey says the issue will be put on hold while the board looks at other projects, such as construction of an auxiliary gym.

Scotland is about 80 miles southwest of Sioux Falls.
