Clock's Ticking For Back To School Shoppers

Sioux Falls, SD

It's crunch time for the Nepp family. The night before Sioux Falls Public School students go back to class, the Nepps are on the clock.

"Sometimes, I like to procrastinate." Virginia Nepp said.

Nepp and her twin sons, Alex and James are on a mission today: "Operation: School Supplies."

Their hectic summer schedule made it difficult to shop until now.

"We have had a busy summer," Virginia said. "I was going to do it last weekend and then something came up and then I was going to do it yesterday but we went swimming yesterday so than I'm like we'll do it Sunday that's the last day we can possibly do it."

"It sneaks up on a lot of people," Lewis Drug Manager Bob Deaton said.

Deaton is busy with a lot of extra foot traffic in the store.

"I have seen a lot of excitement from the kids and a lot of excitement from the parents of course to see the kids go back to school and see the kids get back to learning again," Deaton said.

And even as the summer draws to a close, James Nepp is excited for school to return.

"I love school because I get to learn a lot and I get to play outside," James said.

Even after the bell rings, Deaton says the back-to-school rush may continue throughout the week.

"We'll see a lot of traffic today and there will be a lot of traffic Monday and Tuesday evening especially," Deaton said.

Virginia admits while the summer flew by, so did the last couple of years.

"Just yesterday they were in dippers and I was burping them and giving them the bottle and now all of a sudden they are going into the second grade," Virginia said.

And now they're old enough to shop for themselves.

"This is where all the tape is and stuff. We almost have everything we need," Alex said.

Virgina says she has no regrets waiting until the last minute.

"I'm glad I'm not meeting a stampede basically, it's easier to wait because you know a lot of people do go early to get their school supplies," Virginia said.

With a cart full of supplies, Alex and James are ready to start second grade and can look forward to another fun school year.
