Brandon Valley Middle School Students Go Shoeless

brandon, sd

Brandon Valley Middle School students are walking around in their socks and giving their own shoes away to those who don't even own a pair.

Last year, Brandon Middle School eighth grader Allison Woodward came up with the idea to bring awareness to those across the world who do not have shoes.

The international event "One Day Without Shoes" is sponsored by the popular shoe company TOMS shoes.

The mission of TOMS shoes is with every pair of shoes you buy, the company gives a pair of new shoes to a child in need.

On top of this event, students at the school gave away their own shoes to the organization Soles 4 Souls. These shoes will be shipped to third world countries and given to those who need them.

“The actually Day Without Shoes event is on April 16th but Brandon Valley Middle School decided to do it today because of testing on the 16th,” Woodward said.

Coming up tonight on KELOLAND News, Stephanie Gregory finds out just how many pairs of shoes were collected.
