BOR OKs $65 Million Maximum For Stadium Bids

Pierre, SD

The South Dakota Board of Regents Building Committee has approved plans that set a $65 million ceiling on costs for a new football stadium at South Dakota State University.

Committee members voted unanimously via teleconference Monday morning.

The project had been expected to cost $65 million. It includes about $10 million for design and other "soft costs." There are also various contingency funds built into the projection.

Officials say the cushion is necessary considering the long, 26-month contract and possible labor costs.

Once the bids are finalized in early 2015, the board will know if it can fund any of four alternate projects. The alternates cost about $1.5 million total and include a locker room and additional concession stands.

Donors and bonds will cover most of the stadium cost.
