The Sioux Falls School Board is expected to decide Monday night whether to close three elementary schools in favor of building one larger one.
It's part of a consolidation project expected to save the district money, but it has many parents upset.
The schools on the chopping block include Longfellow, Jefferson and Mark Twain Elementary Schools. The district plans to build a larger school on the current Mark Twain site.
The consolidation proposal is in response to declining enrollment numbers, the ages of the elementary buildings and an effort to save the district millions of dollars.
Some parents who oppose the change have set up an online petition.
The School board heard those concerns in a public meeting but is expected to make a final decision Monday at 5:30 p.m. We'll have live reports tonight on KELOLAND News at Five and Six and bring you the decision on KELOLAND News at Ten.
