ABERDEEN, SD -
An Aberdeen manufacturer has rolled out its 500th 40-meter wind turbine blade to the storage yard.
Molded Fiber Glass Companies of Aberdeen has been in operation for about two years. It earlier manufactured about 245 of the 37-meter blades before switching to the larger ones.
Blade No. 500 is likely headed to the Flat Water wind project near Du Bois, Nebraska.
Materials Manager Richard Frankhauser says the 13,000-pound blade will probably leave Molded Fiber Glass on Monday or Tuesday.
Blades are shipped out of the plant nearly every day to destinations as far away as New Mexico.
Molded Fiber Glass has 350 to 360 employees, with another 15 starting this week.
