It might sound like a strange name to describe an increase in new births, but it's called a "boomlet" because it's not yet clear if the increase is the beginning of a trend.
KELOLAND is also contributing to the national numbers.

Keeping Your Ovaries & Reducing Your Risk
Every day up to 2,000 women have hysterectomies. Many also choose to have their ovaries removed to eliminate their risk of ovarian cancer. But for some women, doctors are now saying not so fast.
That's because two studies show that keeping your ovaries until after menopause may protect women from developing memory problems and Parkinson's disease.

Time Is Running Out
Last January, state legislators approved Governor Mike Rounds' request for nearly 2 million dollars to protect thousand of South Dakota women against cervical cancer for free.
This year's budget doesn't include a similar request, which is why, it won't be long before the program funded in part by those dollars will end.
The bad news, at this point, is that state funding for the cervical cancer vaccine all but dries up December 31st.
