Although it's a Children's Hospital, you'll still find a handful of adult patients receiving treatment here.
Kendra Gottsleben comes to the castle every week to receive enzyme treatments for a rare genetic condition. Why is she still coming to a hospital for kids? It's because the metabolic disorder she has is a pediatric illness and the experts in treating the condition are at Sanford Children's. But it's something Kendra doesn't mind at all.
“No I enjoy seeing children. I mean I enjoy seeing other kids, seeing them, interacting with them every once in awhile so it doesn't bother me,” Kendra said.
In fact, the new hospital and its castle theme go well with Kendra's attitude.
“It's a lot more bright and cheery, a lot more spacious. It’s very child-friendly and I think that's what makes me and other people really enjoy it. Even as an adult, we're all children at heart,” Kendra said.
