Dozens Of Bobcats Harvested In East River Season
YANKTON, SD -

Hunters and conservation officers say that South Dakota's first bobcat season east of the Missouri River appears to have been a success.

Nearly three dozen bobcats were harvested during the 23-day season. It ended Dec. 30.

Yankton resident Mitch Johnson says he got his bobcat along the James River in a thick cedar tree-covered area. He says he caught the cat in a trap.

Game Warden Sam Schelhaas of Yankton County says he was pleased with the initial East River season. In the five counties affected, 33 bobcats were killed.

The harvested carcasses were sent to officials in Sioux Falls for testing. Biologists are compiling data such as age, gender, litter rates and food sources.
